Cities of Opportunity
Healthy People, Thriving Communities

City Planning & Design

City residents must be connected to the people, networks, places, resources and services that they need in their daily lives. Social determinants are tied to planning policy. Public safety, healthy eating and active living are tied to city design. And civic engagement, social capital and trust in the local government can be strengthened via design.

Furthermore, cities have the opportunity and responsibility to address their historical legacy of segregation and discrimination in planning and design, with present-day consequences in gaps in opportunity, linking race, place and health.
